I always love to see families having a great time at a sporting event. A dad bringing his son/daughter to a baseball game and eating all the favorite ballpark foods and maybe even catching a foul ball. Or a family enjoying the edge-of-your-seat action of a hockey game. The last year has made it really difficult to experience that joy and satisfaction we get from seeing our kids just living life without a care in the world, sometimes they don't even care about the game.
On April 10th, I got to experience that exhilaration and I got to enjoy it with my eight year old son. Nothing makes your worries disappear like dedicating an entire day to traveling from city to city (Texas is big) to watch and appreciate the excitement and exuberance that professional sporting events provide.
We were blessed to take in two games in one day. That Saturday we first visited the American Airlines Center in Dallas to watch the Dallas Stars take on the Florida Panthers. It's even better when the home team shocks everyone and defeats the playoff-bound Panthers 4-1. The visiting Panthers could not overcome the first period onslaught that saw Dallas tally two goals in the opening 2 min and added a third before the halfway mark. Rookie Jason Robertson scored two goals and quickly became my son's favorite Dallas Star.
We then took a short trip on I-30 to Arlington to the new state of the art Globe Life Field in hopes the Texas Rangers would get a hit against the San Diego Padres this time around. The home team got seven hits, but would lose 7-4. We got to see some long balls, including a HR from fan favorite Isiah Kiner-Falefa and big blasts from Padres Eric Hosmer and Ha-Seong Kim. Oh, and we even scored an Adrian Beltre bobblehead!
We made some amazing memories that day and made our bond even stronger. If you have the opportunity to attend even just one game, make a day out of it, spend the extra money, eat whatever they want and just sit back and enjoy the simple things in life. Tomorrow is never promised and with all that's going on, just doing something as normal as attending a sporting event WITH fans, makes me forget about all the other noise around us.
